Painful to Powerful: Function Physio’s Exclusive 2-Step Formula to Permanent Injury RehabPosted by: Function Physio

Injuries can strain your lifestyle and prevent you from doing the things you love. They can impact your current and future goals. They can even affect how you’re feeling emotionally and your level of motivation.

As you may have already experienced, your fitness, hobbies, family life, and your profession can be affected by an injury. Without proper rehabilitation, even the smallest injuries can turn into long-term inhibitors. That’s why it’s important to seek treatment and rehab from a trained specialist.

A medical specialist curbs the long-term effects of an injury and speeds up the entire recovery process. Those who live with their injuries, rather than seek assistance, often feel the negative impacts for years to come. Even if you’ve had unsuccessful treatment before, know there are better options for you out there. Don’t let the pain stop you from living the life you want.

How Our Program Works

Our program at Function Physio offers an exclusive and comprehensive rehabilitation approach. Unlike other programs, we practice a double-headed method: treatment and strengthening. We believe treating trauma caused by injuries isn’t enough. Treatment should be followed up by strengthening and moving exercises to ensure you’re not left with weak areas that are susceptible to future injury. We believe in resolving the problems caused by your injury and preventing injuries down the road.

Our dual approach to rehabilitation ensures that once you’re free of injuries, you stay free of injuries.

1. Treat and Restore

The first step of rehabilitation is assessment and diagnosis, followed by treatment. Our highly trained rehabilitation specialists offer customised plans to have you back on your feet in no time.

We utilise a combination of:

  • Specialised physiotherapy techniques
  • Manual therapy
  • Acupuncture and/or taping where required (based on findings)
  • Exercise rehabilitation, predominantly using Pilates and some gym-based equipment

By incorporating a range of techniques, we’re not relying solely on one approach. Instead, we leverage the best option to have you up and going as soon as possible.

2. Move and Strengthen

Once your initial mobility is restored through our ‘Treat and Restore’ steps, you’re ready to move on to the strengthening and movement exercises. We provide a Pilates and action movement-based program that ensures strength is maintained, and likelihood of injury is reduced.

Each rehabilitation movement program is personalised, and consists of different classes, depending on the specific needs of the client. All programs include observation and monitoring to ensure correct technique.

The ‘Move and Strengthen’ component offers longer-term functional gains and restoration of independence. Our exercises allow clients to reach their goals, control their pain, and reduce the likelihood of re-injury in the future.

Why Our Program is Different

Even if you’ve had an injury before and it was unsuccessfully treated, you shouldn’t give up. The human body is an infinitely complex machine, and medical practitioners have different approaches and opinions.

At Function Physio, we believe in working with you to restore your full functionality, in the exact ways you need. And it doesn’t stop there. We provide services to keep you injury-free once you’ve regained your full mobility.

Most importantly, your hard work during rehabilitation shouldn’t go to waste. We want you to stay well once you get well. We accomplish this in a number of ways, including:

  • Ensuring the correct diagnosis
  • Making a sound recovery plan
  • Creating personalised goals
  • Presenting you with the option to maintain your physique under our watchful eye

Our philosophy is more than simply treating the injury. It’s dynamic, comprehensive, and long-term.

Incorporating Extended Assessment and Diagnosis

You can’t treat an injury without diagnosing it correctly. Forming a rehabilitation plan based on an incorrect assessment can do significant damage. That’s why we include extended assessment times in our approach.

During our extended diagnosis session, we evaluate your current ailments and ask about your lifestyle. We delve into your medical history to ensure our diagnosis is the correct one. In other words, we get to know you and your specific needs.

Rather than rushing an assessment, our specialists take the time to get to the root of the cause.

Building a Customised Plan

When you’re on track to meet your goals, you feel motivated—and your chances of achieving and exceeding those goals are higher. We aim to keep that positive momentum going by partnering with you every step of the way.

To help you get where you want to be, we customise each rehabilitation plan for each client. There are no stock-standard programs here. We consider everything from lifestyle to medical history to pain threshold to overall health and abilities. Our specialists work with you to create a customised plan that you agree works for you.

If you have concerns or questions along the way, we’re happy to make changes to your plan and provide you with the answers you need. Our specialists are invested in helping you at every point in the process.

Pursuing Personalised Goals

Your initial goal after an injury is likely to become pain-free. The next step is returning to your normal activities and sports. But the ultimate (and most important) goal is to perform at your personal best and excel beyond what you thought capable. And that’s the goal we believe you should have your eyes on.

Here at Function Physio, we help you set personalised goals from the very beginning. We discuss realistic expectations and timelines—rather than make false promises. While some rehab specialists might tell you that you’ll be back to normal in a week or two, we’ll be practical and honest. We also look much longer-term than that. We’re in it for the long game and we want results that last.

Above all, our specialists will be upfront and honest with their diagnosis. You’ll know exactly what to expect and you’ll have your eyes set on exciting goals for the future.

Maintaining Healthy Function and Movement

Maintaining a strong physique is your best protection against future injuries. To ensure you sustain maximum strength, we offer small group reformer classes once you’ve reached your initial goals. The reformer classes allow us to stay connected with you and reduce your chances of incurring future injuries. We’re here to help you be healthy and strong—far into the future.
